SODIUM BISULPHITE FOOD GRADE
Description:
Sodium Bisulphite appears as white crystals or crystalline powder. Slight sulphurous odor. Specific gravity 1.48.
Chemically, Sodium bisulphite is a combination of sodium, hydrogen, sulfur and oxygen. It is also called sodium hydrogen sulphite, and is classed as a sulphite, or sulphur-based chemical. Its natural form is a white crystalline powder, but turns yellow in solution.
Usage:
Sodium Bisulphite Food Grade occur naturally in wines to some extent. Sulphites are commonly introduced to arrest fermantation at a desired time, and may also be added to wine as preservative to prevent spoilage and oxidation at several stages of the wine making . Sulphur dioxide (SO2) protects wine from not only oxidation, but also from bacteria. Without sulphites, grape juice would quickly turn to vinegar. It is also used in Water Treatment, Food Additive, Food Preservatives, Agro Industry.
It is commonly used in the preservation of fruits and vegetables by preventing the enzymatic browning effect caused by polyphenol oxidase. Commonly used in fruit canning and leafy green vegetables.
It can be used to soften corn kernels, reduce the mechanical strength of corn kernels, and thus enable fiber and protein easily separated from starch.
It is an acidic salt, which is more stable than sulfurous acid in an aqueous solution.
